General Dubai Information

Dubai is one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates located on the Arabian Peninsula, along the southern coast of the Persian Gulf. It covers an area of 4,14 square kilometers (1,588.4 square miles) and has over 2,000,000 inhabitants. The majority of population - about 1,5 million lives in the city of Dubai. Emirate of Dubai is a constitutional monarchy ruled by the Al Maktoum dynasty, currently by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum who is also the Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates.

Unlike other wealthy Arabian countries whose main revenues are oil and natural gas, Dubai's main revenues are from tourism, trade, financial services and real estate. Dubai is also one of the top tourist destinations attracting millions of tourists from all over the world. The city of Dubai is renowned all over the world for its breathtaking architectural achievements and projects such as the world's only seven-star hotel Burj Al Arab, Palm Islands, Emirates Towers, Burj Dubai, Atlantis (the Palm) resort, Ski Dubai, The World and many others which are often regarded as the greatest achievements of modern architecture and engineering.

The official language in Dubai is Arabian but great part of population, especially the younger people speaks and understands English. The currency of Dubai is the United Arab Emirate dirham which has been pegged to the 1 US dollar = 3,67 dirhams or 1 dirham = 0, 27 dollar. The majority of the shops and hotels in Dubai also accept credit cards such as Visa and Master Card but not American Express and Diners Club.
